A political controversy has erupted in Maharashtra after BJP state president Ravindra Chavan made a controversial statement in Latur regarding the legacy of late former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. Chavan’s remarks have triggered strong reactions from the Deshmukh family and the Congress party.

Speaking at a BJP workers’ convention in Latur, Ravindra Chavan stated that, judging by the enthusiasm of party workers, the memories of Vilasrao Deshmukh would be “completely erased” from the city. The statement immediately sparked outrage across political circles.

Reacting sharply, actor Riteish Deshmukh, son of Vilasrao Deshmukh, gave a powerful response in just a few words. He said,

“The names of those who lived for the people are carved into their hearts. What is written can be erased. What is carved cannot. Jai Maharashtra!”

Riteish’s statement quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread support from the public.

Congress leader Amit Deshmukh, also son of Vilasrao Deshmukh, condemned Chavan’s remarks, calling them against Maharashtra’s cultural values.
He said,

“This statement reflects how far the BJP is willing to stoop in politics. This is neither the culture of Latur nor of Maharashtra. I strongly condemn this remark.”

The controversy has intensified the war of words between the BJP and Congress, with social media platforms flooded with reactions supporting Vilasrao Deshmukh’s legacy. Many users termed the statement disrespectful and insensitive towards a leader remembered for his contribution to Maharashtra.
